Wog Adventures Continue

Yesterday morning we went on another Bob Wog. Felix got mad about halfway around the lake so we stopped at a bench to watch the Canada geese.

It was fun to watch him get excited when he could hear them honking and to watch his little head follow them as they flew away. We sat there for five minutes or so and four sets of senior ladies stopped to oggle little Felix. If walking a dog leads to picking up men (damn...maybe that's why Stephen won't let me get one), then walking a baby leads to picking up grandmas.

Daddy's Little Tax Deduction

Rather appropriate for this time of year, don't you think?

SNOW!

It snowed yesterday morning and was freezing all day. Felix had one of those lovely afternoons where he refused to sleep and the stroller is our saviour on such days so we bundled up!

Hugs

Face Close Up

Felix has ended up with some weird parents...at least one weird parent. Luckily, he puts up with it quite patiently.

Rough Ones

Poor Felix. I don't know if it's teething or just general discomfort, but the last couple of nights he's been waking up right at 8:30pm with a terrible cry. He wants to be swaddled still, but breaks out easily and rolls right to his stomach which makes him really angry. His pacifier goes flying under the crib.

These are some pics taken during the middle of a crying spree. I was trying to capture some of the rather funny unhappy faces he was giving us, but he kept smiling when he saw the camera.

Wascana Wogs

We have been enjoying an absolutely fantastic mid-April heat wave here in Saskatchewan. Felix and I have been taking regular "wogs" with BOB around the lake each day and thoroughly enjoying ourselves. There are so many interesting people who are walking around the lake during the business day. Here are some generalizations of the groups of people we see:

1) Teenagers skipping out of class. They are texting while they walk.
2) Young lovers holding hands...University students.
3) Moms and babies...lots of 'em. Usually walking in pairs. Holy baby boom in this city!
4) Seniors
5) Overweight dudes in office-wear...just taking a break?
6) Hottie hot hots...no shirts...I imagine them to be bouncers in the thriving Regina club scene.
7) People who look like their dogs.
8) The hardcore runners. They jiggle sweat all over you as they pass you.

Small Paul

Felix is now fitting into some cute little "bunny hugs" as we say in Saskatchewan...or "hoodies" if you will. I think he looks particularly hip in Small Paul.

Random Morning Cuteness

Caught in mid-drool.

Saturday morning means Stephen is home and I always look forward to having a little help around and spending time as a threesome. Sadly, he is on call this weekend and got called in at 2am last night and had to go back in at 10 this morning (and may be there for 1-6 hours...sigh). We were planning to shop for some fixtures for our bathroom reno this morning...but instead I got some cute time with Felix.

Felix's Great Uncle Gary picked out "My Pal Scout" which is a cute little green guy that you can download songs, your kid's name, his favourite animal, food, etc. Felix is entranced by the thing. He also looked pretty cute lying on his Felix blanket courtesy of Kim & Keane.

Book Sale

Felix and I went on an outting to the Golden Mile this morning to visit the RSO Book and Music Sale. This fundraiser is huge and so so cool. Two days a week, from September to April, volunteers sort and price books that are donated at various donation points around the city. For 10 days in April, our "book store" is set up at the mall with various "specials" to entice customers each day. It is a well oiled machine and I was so extremely impressed with it when I started this job.

Felix and I had fun chatting with all of the volunteers (who are so extremely dedicated to this event). We ran into Monica and Mac at the sale as well which was cool.

I bought 4 books:

A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini (hardcover $4)...the next book in our book club

In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje ($2.50)...one of Ondaatje's books I haven't read and have been meaning to especially because of the Toronto setting

Beloved by Toni Morrison ($3)...have always meant to read this one as well

Adultery by Richard B. Right ($3)...random purchase, but I loved one of his other books, Clara Callan.

I might go back for more. Most of the books are in such great shape you could pick them up as gifts. The sale is on until next Saturday, and if you're in Regina you should definitely check it out and pick up your stock of summer reading...while supporting a great cause!

Jump Around

I'd been excited to put Felix into this contraption for awhile. Stephen calls it baby bunjee jumping. As you can see it was so fun that it caused a bit of a drool-fest, but Felix LOVES it.

Dear Felix,

Dear Felix,

You are napping soundly now in your baby swing and the thunder is roaring during an April storm. You are only 4.5 months old, but I can hardly remember our life before you. I've been negligent about taking your photo every month on your monthiversary or tracking every moment so I try to write these little notes to you so you can have snapshots of what your life was like as a baby.

Every day we are starting to see more of your personality. When you wake up hungry in the middle of the night you are upset, but once you see one of us peeking in on you there is a big smile and some cooing and fake coughing to greet us. After I feed you and put you back into bed you kick your feet happily, but you almost always go back to sleep easily.

As soon as your Dad comes home from work you give him the biggest smile. He quickly changes out of his work clothes and cleans up so that the two of you can play. I hear both of you squealing and giggling away in the bathroom as he gives you his bath. Your dad still comes home at lunch almost every day so he can play with you and change your diaper...he loves to change your diapers.

You think I'm pretty funny too for some reason. Sometimes when I'm holding you and you're just about asleep your eyes pop open and you laugh at me. Yesterday as I was changing your diaper you peed on me. I screamed. You chuckled.

You love singing and music. When you are upset in the car all it takes is about two seconds of "Twinkle Twinkle" to get you happy again. I sing to you every night before bed. You don't care that I'm vocally challenged or forget/make-up most of the words. You stare at me intently with your big unblinking eyes until you cuddle in and yawn and I know it's time to put you in your crib.

You are strong and so interested in learning. You can sit up for a few minutes at a time now, you've been rolling in both directions for almost a month. You stare and touch your toys with such great interest, trying to figure out the world. You've had some success in grabbing Keith and Tesla's tails with your wet slobbery hands, getting covered in cat hair...I later pick it out of your mouth.

I took you shopping with me the other day and you were so happy the entire time that you had the store clerks laughing at you cooing away to yourself for about 20 minutes...cooing and gurgling so loudly.

Your Dad and I, always competitive, are trying to push "mamamamama" or "dadadada" on you for your first babble...we'll see who wins.

You are such a happy little giggly, wiggly, rolly, angelic trickster and you have brought so much to our lives in 4.5 short months. Let the fun continue little guy!

Love,

Mom

The Funniest Thing I Heard All Week

"I like everything about Saskatchewan...except for living there."

Fake Cough

Felix has a terrible case of the fake cold. When he wants attention he does this really funny fake cough. Of course he has noticed how hilarious Stephen and I find this symptom of his horrible fake cold, so he does it even more. I have yet to capture it on camera because as soon as I take the camera out he wants to shove the whole thing in his mouth.

BOB

No...it's not a Battery Operated Boyfriend. It's my beloved brand new jogging stroller which was a group gift from my work. I love you, BOB. Let's go jogging.

Easter Weekend

Stephen plays craft corner with the chocolate bunny box.

Great-grandma and Felix

Great-grandpa and Felix read Yummy Yucky

We take Felix on a quick road trip to an artist's studio to get something special for Michael and Shelagh's wedding. (Shhhh)

Mom can't have Felix on her lap without hosting her other baby, Morty.

What a lovely long weekend. Great weather, friends, and family.

We had Megan & Jer over on Thursday night for Steve's homemade pizza deliciousness. It turned into a full evening of games and grilled cheeses for you know who until 3am.

On Friday we drove down to Carlyle to have a great visit with family.

Happy Easter!

Felix and the Older Woman

We had a lovely visit with Jolene and Isla. Felix was entranced by Isla's great beauty and bouncy ponytail. Obviously this was love at first sight.
