Ear Infection

Day 9 - I hope this is the end of the saga. It was an ear infection that multiple doctors checking his ears have missed (even after we specifically told them that he had been pulling at his ears) until today when the membrane ruptured. Finally we have a prescription for some antibiotics and I can't wait to have my active little boy back.

The Fever Continues - Day 7

One Dr's visit and two evenings in the Emergency Room later...we still have a very sick high-fevered little man. It has been an exhausting Easter.

Friday night, the fever broke but still continues on and off. He wants to sleep constantly, but would prefer to sleep on me. He started to eat again and drink a little more on Saturday so that has been a relief. On Friday all he ate was juice and "apples" (his term for mini-eggs...yeah, we're great parents, but at least he ate something).

The Dr. in the ER last night told us that he is pretty sure it is a viral infection that could last 7-10 days. They tested him to make sure it wasn't a bacterial infection and he passed the test thank goodness.

I'm happy to have some piece of mind that he's ok...just sad that it had to happen while my mom was visiting, but glad that I have a week off before my new job starts.

Fever Times

I know that I have nothing to complain about with Felix health-wise compared to what some of my friends have gone/are going through. I've never had to take him to a Dr other than for his regularly scheduled check-ups. I guess that's why I get a little freaked out when he does get sick.

Last night Felix had a rare night-waking. Stephen went in to deal with it around 1am and Felix was pointing at his stuffed animals so Stephen thought he might have gotten scared. He calmed him down and as soon as he left the room Felix started crying away (this hardly ever happens). Stephen told me he might need to just cry to sleep so I sat awake listening to it for about fifteen minutes or so but I knew I had to go in there and comfort the little fellow, this was weird and something was wrong.

As soon as I touched him to pick him up, he was HOT. He was simultaneously so sleepy, but he needed me to be there and refused to let me leave the room so I slept with him in the guest bed. At numerous times he woke up because he was uncomfortable and sat straight up and then slowly fell asleep while sitting up and plopped back down onto the bed.

I stayed home with him today as he definitely couldn't go to daycare in this condition. The weirdest part is how super cuddly and calm and quiet he gets. It's nice to get the cuddles and yet eerie because it's like some strangely quiet kid who isn't extremely curious or interested in getting into everything around him has overtaken his body. At one point, he grabbed a pillow and threw it on the floor and then just curled up and fell asleep on it.

He was in bed by 6:15pm. Hopefully he'll get a good rest and start feeling better tomorrow.

Uncle, Daddy, Bob

Stephen was working on Saturday so Felix and I ventured out to do a few errands. Part one was hitting the grocery store which led to a few interesting moments. While I was filling a bag with almonds from a bulk bin, I turned to look at Felix who had managed to reach from the cart to help himself to a huge handful of almonds. I can happily report, he is not allergic to nuts. He then excitedly started pointing to a man walking behind us and yelling "UNCLE UNCLE"...it wasn't Uncle Michael at all, but a pretty good look-alike. At the check-out line he said "HELLO" about thirty times to our cashier who happily indulged him by responding with a similarly cheerful hello. We then headed over to Ikea to pick up a new cooler duvet and no stop to Ikea is complete without letting Felix play in the children's area (a great rainy-day playground). He did run up to one man yelling "DADDY DADDY" (I guess he was a man in his 30's) and another man yelling "BOB" (he somewhat looked like our neighbour) and happily turned around and pointed to me, introducing me as "MOMMY".

Rental House

Last Sunday something exciting happened. We've been tossing around the idea of buying a rental property for a while now, preferably something within the same province that we currently live in...even more preferable would be something in our neighbourhood. Beyond that we were looking for something with multiple units (for more rental income) that needed only a little bit of work and would possibly be something that we would eventually want to move into ourselves. It was a lot to consider and we were thinking about many different scenarios including buying a new house to move into now and renting out our current beloved 2 bedroom house that we renovated. In any case, last Sunday Stephen went out with our real estate agent to do some looking around and he found exactly what we wanted less than a block and away from our house! 3 separate units, massive, in great shape, and has a layout that we could definitely work with to form into a spectacular home for ourselves in a few years. 6 bedrooms, 3 kitchens, 4 bathrooms...it's a Parkdale gem! The biggest fix that it needs immediately is new electrical. Luckily we have a guy. And today we got the news that our financing went through, insurance is good to go, etc etc.! Woot woot to our increased load of debt and our perfect big future new home!

I Love You

We've been practicing a few three word phrases lately with young Felix. "Front-end Loader" - not a phrase, but a very exciting Tonka toy he inherited from our neighbours. He used to call it a back-hoe, but now he can differentiate between it and a back-hoe, and the bulldozer. I'm also learning a great deal about trucks these days. "Happy Birthday Uncle" - Felix has really taken to his Uncle Michael. Tomorrow is his birthday so tonight at supper we were practicing this one. I hope he can do it tomorrow! "I Love You" - at the end of our bedtime routine I always encourage him to say "night night Daddy, I love you". He's been getting the "night night" part for awhile now, but tonight he said "I love you" for the first time. I don't know if he knows what he is saying, but it was the sweetest thing I have ever heard.
