Dear Felix,
It's been awhile since I've written you a "Dear Felix" and you've grown up so much. Today seems like a good time as it is your last day of the ripe young age of zero. No pressure. Tomorrow at 9:42pm, you will have been breathing in the outside world for one year exactly. It seems as though you have been here with us forever.
Last night as we ate supper after a fantastic day of celebrating you, your Dad and I gave each other a high five across the dinner table for making it through the year. You looked at me, gave me a huge smile, and held up your hand so you could get a high five as well.
These days, you surprise me almost constantly with what you notice and can do. You love to toddle around (even though you sometimes trip and fall) and prefer to do so with something rather large or pointy in your hand. You point at pictures of dogs in new places that your Dad and I didn't even notice and say "woof woof". You can crawl up the stairs so fast. We ask you to splash in the bath and you do, we ask you to kick and you do. Last night as we walked around to our neighbours' houses distributing leftover giraffe cupcakes you said "Bye bye" as we left each house. You couldn't do all of this stuff two weeks ago. How does this happen so fast?
You were having your bath last night and were giggling away when your Dad put a washcloth on your back and then very slowly removed it and I heard him say "I must remember this for when you are older and we are fighting". One of the most important things you have taught me this year is about living in the moment and enjoying every single second of Felix time.
Love,
Mom
This is really nice Natasha. I apologize for leaving the party before the giraffe cupcakes and actual birthday cake time. Susan wanted to make we left before the tired meltdown commenced and as soon as we hit the car, Tiago fell asleep. Thanks for having us over.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jorge - don't worry we totally understand about nap time. Sorry that Felix kept taking Tiago's food and drink the entire party. We can't wait to hang out again soon!
ReplyDeleteNatasha this is beautiful, and perfectly put. There may or may not have been tears over here while reading it. Felix sure is one lucky little monkey.
ReplyDeleteMy eyes are watery and my ovaries are pinching. You, Stephen and little Felix sure make one awesome trio. Let's do some shots of Boodlini!
