Sad Mother's Day

This one goes out to our amazing neighbour, Janis, who passed away on Sunday, Mother's Day.

Anyone who has visited our house has met Janis as she is out on her porch every afternoon and evening chatting and visiting with every passerby, almost single-handedly responsible for making our street as community minded and unique as it is.

I'll never forget meeting her when we first looked at the house. She told us what a great family street it was and a great place to live. When we first moved in and commented on the noise of the streetcars, she told us that she thinks of them as the orcas of Lake Ontario and it's not so bad. She took care of Stephen when I had moved to Saskatchewan, making sure he had someone to talk to and kept his spirits up. They kept an eye on our place while we lived in Sask and were the first to welcome us home, to offer a helping hand, to babysit...the list goes on.

We already miss her and this little corner of High-Parkdale (another of her trademarked phrases) will never be the same.
