"I Make Wilbert Cry"

I've been a little surprised by the fact that even this young, our boys have the ability to make each other laugh and cry easier than anyone else.

Felix will get Wilbert chuckling just by looking at him, and peek-a-boo just throws the poor kid over the edge.

This afternoon Felix was in a bit of a mood and randomly just said "I make Wilbert cry" and started emitting a short high pitched shriek.  Wilberts bottom lip started quivering immediately and curled under and he started crying.  Stephen and I had to hold back our laughter.

Firetruck

This evening after Wilbert was sleeping, I took Felix for a little neighbourhood walk.  We got a tip from our neighbour that there was a firetruck and an ambulance parked up the street so we headed that way.  When we got to the firetruck the fireman sitting inside noticed us and turned on the lights for us.  We started chatting him up and he let Felix sit inside.  Felix asked to see the hose and so the fireman took it out and let Felix hold the end.  How cool is that?

A few weeks ago we were walking down King Street and a police officer who was slowly driving by pulled over to let Felix sit in the car and turn on the lights.  In fact, every time we see police they wave at Felix and chat.  He even got to meet and chat to one of the horseback cops one day with Stephen.

A Monster

Yesterday, Felix came home from daycare and immediately told me that he saw a monster.  With a very concerned face in a matter of fact way he told me again "I saw a monster and it's going to eat me."  "The monster said NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! and couldn't get any coffee.  I was surprised and scared."

After questioning him a bit about when and where he saw the monster and not being quite sure what was going on, I just assured him that mommy and daddy and Ane and Nat (at daycare) would never let anything eat him and that monsters aren't real.

Stephen then came in and gave me the whole story.  On the way home, they had stopped to watch a commercial being filmed on Roncy.  It was a Tim Horton's commercial and the actor was banging on the door of the local cheese shop and yelling "NOOOOOOOOOOOO!" because they were out of coffee.  Apparently they had watched a few takes of the commercial when Felix asked to go home because he was "surprised and scared".

Poor kid woke up this morning telling me about the monster he saw again.  I'm very curious to see this commercial when it comes out!

One Of Those Weekends....

An older one from mid-April I forgot to publish!

It feels as though I haven't posted forever, but we've been busy!  Stephen has been working like mad to get the basement suite of our rental house finished for a May 15 move-in date...yes, we have it rented which makes things even easier this go-round.  By working like mad, I mean he's been volunteering to do the night shift (leave our house at 6pm mid-supper and get home around 3am) so that he can get a few hours of sleep and then be able to work on the house during the day (so he can meet with a few contractors we've hired this time).

Despite everyone being tired from the extra workload (yeah, it leads to an extra parenting/housekeeping/everything else load on my end) we are doing ok.  Well, until this weekend.  I was really looking forward to Friday night because it was the first date night Stephen and I had carved out for ourselves in ages.  We were going to have Wilbert with us, but Felix was taken care of and we were just going to go for dinner.  I was especially looking forward to this, because of the night shifts and being essentially unable to have a conversation with Stephen when he hasn't had to run-off to work or has been in a half zombie-like state.

But alas, that morning, I got a phone call from Felix's daycare that he was running a really high fever and that a viral flu was making its way through all the kids.  The poor guy was just beside himself, refusing to take tylenol, throwing up on everyone.  So, that's how we spent date night...residual effects on Wilbert lead to a sleepless night as we moved him out of his crib and back into our bed in the hopes that he won't get sick too (thank goodness for BF-ing, he hasn't...knock on wood!)  He's also teething.  Stephen came down with a cold in the middle of this.

On Saturday Stephen had a number of things that he had to do at the other house so I took the boys to see the cherry blossoms at High Park and to see the new baby bison and llamas.  The miracle of Felix being sick was that he stayed in the stroller the entire time quietly looking at things.  Saturday night, Stephen had to work from 9:30pm until 5am.  I basically spent my night between the two beds helping a hallucinating two year old, and feeding Wilbert.

Thankfully, Felix started to show signs of improvement today:  lower fever, eating, playing, joking around; although not yet his old self again.  No one napped.  Stephen worked on the house some more.  I made a bag of noodles for supper and now everyone except for me is upstairs sleeping at 7pm.  The house is a disaster zone.  I just need a beer and some reality tv.

Update

It has been too long since I've blogged so here is a bit of a catch up.

Stephen has been working day and night to get our basement rental suite finished.  It is so so close!  Uncle Michael and his team re-built our back mud-room so our own house has been turned upside down as well, but we are excited for doors and windows to be added and the outside finished.

I took the little boys to Saskatchewan for 11 days and we had so much fun.  Felix especially enjoyed baking cookies every day, playing in mud puddles, visiting farms, tractor rides, collecting chicken eggs, etc.  Wilbert enjoyed being held by various family members and being thoroughly entertained and well cuddled.  Stephen fit in a little trip to Cuba to do a bit of diving on his own, a much deserved break from all the renovating!

Felix is talking our ears off and has developed quite an extensive vocabulary.  We had to give him a time out at supper last night and at the end of it when we asked him to repeat the rule he broke back to us he went on pause and then said "I can't talk."  Sigh.  He is definitely 2 and rather frustrating at times, but still so cute and cuddly and enthusiastic that it is hard to stay frustrated for long.  He is climbing up the hard parts at the playground now without need for help.  We've also been toilet training for the last week or two and he is really getting the hang of it.  He's even made it through 3 days in a row with no accidents!  Yesterday he helped me plant our front flower beds and loved it.  The flowers aren't exactly in the locations I was planning and some of them got a little torn up, but it doesn't really matter as we had such a fun morning planting while Wilbert sat/rolled around on his blanket and watched us.

Wilbert has been hitting quite a few developmental milestones in the last few weeks (I almost forgot how exciting 6 months is).  He has taken to solid food with great enthusiasm.  He has been rocking back and forth on all fours for awhile now and even does downward dog from time to time.  Two nights ago he figured out how to go from lying to sitting (it made for a long night of him cooing excitedly and repeating over and over).  His sitting is solid enough now that I can leave him on the hardwood and not worry that he will fall over.  He has done a few army crawls, but nothing long-distance yet.  He has also started babbling in the past week and Felix things it is very funny to listen to Wilbert "talk".

The other part of this age that I'm loving is that we can bathe the boys together finally which makes things much easier (especially since it is summer and we have to do it pretty much nightly due to all the sand/mud/dirt/avocados we get into).

Felix in the Jolly Jumper

A couple of days ago we dug out the Jolly Jumper for Wilbert, but Felix decided he wanted to have a go.  He couldn't stop laughing and neither could we.
